Staying Well and Preventing Illness
Our Health Promotion Team provides activities to promote Western Australian women’s wellness and prevent illness. Community displays, events and free education sessions are tailored to meet women’s needs for up to date information and fun opportunities to practice staying well and preventing illness.
Popular Group Activities

Act-Belong-Commit
GWHS is part of the Act-Belong-Commit campaign to promote people being mentally healthy. Positive steps that we can all do for health include:
Act: keep mentally, physically and socially active - take a walk, say g’day, read a book, do a crossword, dance, play cards, stop for a chat ...
Belong: joining in community activities, join a book club, take up a cooking class, be more involved in groups you are already a member of, go along to community events …
Commit: take up a cause, help a neighbour, learn something new, set yourself a challenge, help out at the school or meals on wheels …

More information on Act-Belong-Commit can be found at the website www.actbelongcommit.org.au

GWHS programs that incorporate the Act-Belong-Commit message include:
Belly Dancing
  • Creating New Physical Activity Options for Women – a program of enjoyable, active courses including Belly Dancing and Tai Chi to help you get fit and have fun!
  • The Wednesday Women’s Walk and Talk, a casual morning group that meets each Wednesday morning in the foyer of the Gosnells Community Lotteries House (opposite the Gosnells Post Office) for a walk through Pioneer Park before returning for a coffee and a chat.

FOODcents
Another program GWHS runs is FOODcents, a series of low cost healthy eating and cooking workshops designed to stretch your food-shopping dollar further. More information on FOODcents can be found at www.foodcentsprogram.com.au. You can join an existing women’s group or ask us to help you develop your own health and wellbeing group.
